Lifeboat trouble in Stavanger

The "Costa Mediterranea" was unable to hoist two of its lifeboats back to its davits during a rescue exercise at Stavanger in the afternoon of June 1, after its arrival from Flåm. One of the lifeboats got stuck and was hanging at the port side bow up. When the crew failed to fix the problem, a crane had to be called to put the lifeboat back and secure it. For this purpose, a mobile crane was mounted on the deck of the barge "Shjandtor" and managed to pull the boat in its correct position. Cruise ship had berthing problems in stormy weather

On Dec 7, 2018, the "Costa Mediteranea" tried for three hours to berth safely in the port of Heraklion. At 7 a.m. the master informed the port authorities that he considered the conditions for entering the port unsafe due to windy winds and waves. The ship finally was able to enter the port at 11.45 a.m.

Carnival Corp. Launches New China-Based Cruise Line; Two Costa Ships to be Transferred

Carnival Corporation & plc today revealed that its new Chinese cruise brand CSSC Carnival Cruise Shipping Limited -- developed through its partnership with China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC) -- will launch this week, with a goal of operating cruises by late 2019 to serve the booming Asian cruise market. To build the CSSC Carnival Cruise Shipping Limited fleet, Carnival will deploy two vessels from its Costa Cruises brand. Carnival oversees Costa, Princess Cruises, P&O Cruises, Holland America Line and several other brands. The 2,210-passenger Costa Atlantica will be transferred to the new line in late 2019, while its 2,114-passenger sister ship Costa Mediterranea will follow at a date to be determined.
