Grounding on the Rhine
On Jan 11, 2012, at 00.10 a.m. the "Eiltank 41", 2944 ts (EU-No.: 05501930), ran aground on the Rhine near Düsseldorf-Kaiserswerth. It got stuck on the ramp of the Rhine ferry „Düsseldorf – Lank-Latum“. Water police and Rhine Shipping Authority were soon on scene in order to refloat the vessel which was loaded with 1700 tons gasoil. The crew of five was not injured. A survey showed that there was no leak. But due to the falling river tide it was decided to lighter the cargo. At 6.30 a.m. 400 tons gasoil were pumped onto another tanker. By 7 a.m., the "Eiltank 41" finally could be refloated, and then the vessel proceeded to Colonia. The fire brigades from Neuss and Duisburg were involved in the salvage work.
