Two medevacs off Comodoro Rivadavia

On Sep 14, 2023, the captain of the Argentina flagged f/v 'Maria Eugenia' contacted the Argentinian Force because a crew member, 51 years old and with a history of diabetes and hypertension, was experiencing respiratory difficulty with dependence on supplemental oxygen and cyanosis and edema in the lower limbs. After evaluating the patient's condition and because there was little oxygen to continue assisting the crew member on board, a doctor from the Institution recommended his immediate evacuation, when the ship was 40 nautical miles from Comodoro Rivadavia. Hours later, the captain of the “Empesur V”, which was sailing 138 nautical miles from Comodoro Rivadavia, informed the Argentine Maritime Authority, that a 42-year-old sailor had a condition compatible with peritonitis. He was ordered to be evacuated from the ship by air too. The Comodoro Rivadavia Air Station launched a plane and a helicopter with a doctor on board. Once the helicopter was positioned over the ships, a basket was lowered and the crew members were hoisted, who received the first care on board the helicopter and received the diagnoses of “heart failure” and “acute abdomen” respectively. While the rescue maneuver was carried out, the plane provided support. The arrival of the ambulances at the Comodoro airport was coordinated to transport the sick crew members. Both were taken to healthcare centers for better care after their arrival.
