Medevac off Viedma
On May 5, 2022, the Argentine Naval Prefecture medevaced a crew member of the 'Empesur VI' who suffered a possible case of appendicitis and needed urgent medical attention, when the ship was almost 200 kilometers from Viedma, Río Negro. The crew member suffered severe abdominal pain and fever, and after a radio consultation with a doctor from the Argentine Maritime Authority, the medevac was decided. Immediately, an aircraft of the Prefecture took off to the scene, whose crew members were in charge of evaluating the emergency zone and providing support to the rescue operation. At the same time, a helicopter departed from the Mar del Plata Air Station with a doctor on board and rescue swimmers. Once on the ship, the personnel lowered a sanitary basket and hoisted the crew member, who received the first assistance on board. At the same time, the arrival of an ambulance at the airport in the city of Viedma was coordinated. Once on shore, the sailor was transferred to a hospital for medical care.
