Collision in Callao
On March 24, 2018, at 9.30 a.m. the "Laura Maersk" was in collision with the container ship "MSC Shuba B" in the port of Callao while manoevering off quay 5 of the APM Terminals. Despite attempts of the tugs to avoid the Maersk-ship slamming into the starboard side of the MSC-vessel, it hit the stern, causing minor damage. The "Laura Maersk" left the port again on March 25 at 7.40 a.m., the "MSC Shuba B" followed at 11 a.m., bound to San Antonio, Chile, with an ETA as of March 28. Disabled box ship moored in Broad Bay
The tug "Gretchen Dunlap" had towed the "Laura Maersk" back to Unalaska. She was moored in Broad Bay awaiting repairs. According to the Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation, none of the crew was injured and no oil was spilled. It was estimated that 51,500 gallons of fuel were on board.
Container ship adrift off Aleutian Islands
The "Laura Maersk" went adrift seven miles north of Akutan Island on July 14, 2017, around 8 p.m. after the engine room caught fire causing it lose power near the Aleutian Islands. She was safely taken in tow by tugs early July 15, following concerns that it might run aground near Akutan. y 12:30 a.m., it was about seven miles from the island and about four hours away from grounding. Three tugs, including two launched from Dutch Harbor, responded to the ship. The Coast Guard cutter "Midgett" also headed to the scene. The vessel was nearing Dutch Harbor by about 6 a.m. The "Laura Maersk", with a crew of 24, had roughly 51,500 gallons of fuel on board according to the state Department of Environmental Conservation.
