Jordan- Aqaba Port’s first oil-tanker steering gear in place

Tue Jun 04 08:23:54 CEST 2019 arnekiel

The Aqaba Development Company (ADC) has completed installing the first oil-tanker steering gear of international standards at the Aqaba Oil Terminal, located within the new southern port.Terminal director, Mohammad Louama, said the new and upgraded system utilises laser technology to monitor speed and calculate distance, thus facilitating the process of docking tankers at night, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported. The previously used docking mechanism relied on the estimations and expertise of the maritime piloting crew, thus making it difficult to dock tankers at night, Louama said.

Jordan eyes new refinery at port of Aqaba as it vies to reduce energy imports

Sun Nov 18 23:44:21 CET 2018 arnekiel

Jordan wants to build a refinery at Aqaba, to process Iraqi crude from a planned pipeline linking Basra to the Red Sea-facing port, as the country aims to reduce its energy imports by 2020, its oil minister said on Tuesday. “Currently the refinery [at Zarqa] is being upgraded. If there will be a pipeline from Iraq, we will be looking to build a new refinery in Aqaba,” Hala Zawati said. “[We’re building] another one so that white product can be immediately exported through Aqaba.”

AQABA NEW PORT SET FOR DIGITISATION

Jordan’s Aqaba New Port will see all ship and goods movements, warehouse management and logistics fully digitised in a project with a contract volume worth millions of euros. German company INPLAN Software Solutions (INPLAN), which provides software solutions for ports, terminals and maritime logistics firms, has won a tender for the venture, which will be realised in several phases and is anticipated to last two years. “INPLAN has been able to fully demonstrate its strong performance and succeeds in an 18-month bidding process against some 50 international competitors,” INPLAN chief executive Mohamad Itani said.
