Cargo ship rescued 59 migrants

On the morning of Sep 12, 2025, the Port Authority of Paleochora was informed by the JRCC of the Greek Coast Guard, that the 'Admiral de Ribas', en route from Damietta, had recovered 59 migrants south of Gavdos. The cargo ship proceeded towards the port of Tigani, Paleochora, from where the migrants were transferred to a patrol boat of the Greek Coast Guard- and safely transported to the port of Tigani. They were then taken to a temporary accommodation facility in Agia Chania. A preliminary investigation was being conducted by the Central Port Authority of Chania.

Repairs in Tuzla completed

Aboard the 'Admiral de Ribas', steel replacement was being done in deformed and thinned locations. Overhauling of main and auxiliary engines were being carried out by shore based technical teams. Also, a new set of spare parts has been provided by the manufacturer. Dry docking for bottom section maintenance was also under progress in Tuzla as of Jan 31, 2020. The vessel finally left the yard on Feb 9 at 9.45 a.m. It headed to Istanbul where it arrived off the port at 4 p.m. and has since remained stationary in the mooring position 40° 58.44' N 028° 54.56' E.

Broken down freighter under tow to Tuzla

The 'Admiral de Ribas', which had suffered an engine failure at Odessa on Aug 1, 2018, was taken in tow by the tug 'Horoz' to Tuzla on Nov 28, 2019, after repair attempts by the crew failed. On Dec 4 it arrived at Tuzla Anchorage was berthed at the shipyard pier where a damage survey was started by class surveyors in the afternoon.
