Battery caused smoke development

Thu Jan 30 22:18:06 CET 2020 Timsen

A smoldering battery caused smoke development in the engine room of the 'Argonon' which was berthed at the quay in Rilland while transiting the Scheldt-Rhine Canal enroute from Antwerp to Rotterdam in the morning of Jan 30, 2020. The fire brigade was alerted and attended with two fire trucks. They mastered the situation by removing the fuses from the batteries. Then the batteries were disconnected from the main engine and had then to be cooled. The ship was then able to continue the voyage and arrived at the Heysche Port in Rotterdam at 9.30 p.m. Dutch report with photo: https://www.omroepzeeland.nl/nieuws/117847/Smeulende-accu-zorgt-voor-rook-in-machinekamer-van-schip-in-Schelde-Rijnkanaal

First LNG Bunkering Takes Place at Port of Antwerp

Wed Dec 12 09:37:21 CET 2012 arnekiel

Port of Antwerp has announced that the first liquified natural gas (LNG) bunkering operation at a Belgian port has taken place. The Port said that on Wednesday last week (Dec. 5, 2012) the LNG powered barge Argonon operated by Deen Shipping was bunkered by an LNG truck. "This represents a further significant step towards more environment-friendly shipping in the port of Antwerp," the port said. http://shipandbunker.com/news/emea/713049-first-lng-bunkering-takes-place-at-port-of-antwerp

World’s first LNG-fueled inland tanker delivered

Fri Dec 16 09:09:29 CET 2011 arnekiel

The world's first new LNG-fuelled tanker has been delivered in Rotterdam to Lloyd's Register class, heralding the start of a new era of cleaner shipping for Europe's local waterways, Yourshipbuildingnews reports. The delivery of MT Argonon, a 6,100-dwt dual-fuelled chemical tanker, represents a significant milestone for the Deen Shipping subsidiary, Argonon Shipping B.V., in its pursuit of cleaner transport solutions for Europe. Lloyd’s Register helped the owners and regulators to identify their risks, meet regulatory requirements and overcome the technical challenges for the precedent-setting tanker. The dual-fuel system is designed to burn an 80/20 mixture of natural gas and diesel, reducing Sox, Nox and particulate-matter emissions, as well as reducing the greenhouse gas emissions from tank to flue. The LNG is stored in a transport tank located on deck, supplied by Cryonorm Projects, based near Amsterdam.
