Cargo fire in the port of Rostock

Mon Sep 08 18:26:16 CEST 2014 Timsen

On Sep 8, 2014, at 12.30 a.m. a fire broke out in the cargo hold of the "BBC Bangkok" during loading operations at berth 43 in the port of Rostock. The ship had loaded parts for offshore windfarms. The fire brigade was on ssene with 37 men from Rostock, Warnemünde and Gehlsdorf. They had to fight with intense heat and dense smoke under deck and had difficulties to trace the origin of the fire which was found to have been the nacelle of a wind plant. The smoke was blown onto the quay. The fire was caused by welding works while the cargo was secured. After four hours it was reported under control.
