Costa Cruises to base three ships in South America in winter 2020-2021
Costa Cruises’ Costa Luminosa is to join Costa Fascinosa and Costa Pacifica in South America for the winter 2020-2021 season, significantly boosting the cruise line’s capacity in the region. Costa Luminosa will depart Venice, Italy on 8 November 2020 and sail a transatlantic crossing to Santos, Brazil. The ship will then offer a series of seven-night cruises to Itajai, Brazil; Buenos Aires, Argentina; and Montevideo, Uruguay.
Medevac off Spain
On March 29, 2019, a passenger had to be medevaced from the "Costa Fascinosa". A 74-year-old passenger suffered pulmonary embolism, 10.6 miles from the shore. Salvamento Marítimo deployed the 220 Helimer helicopter which hoisted the patient and transferred him to the hospital La Fe de Valencia.
'Cocaine cruise ship’ smugglers on trial for transatlantic hash and coke trade
Thirty-four people who posed as tourists on Costa cruise ships have gone on trial for their part in a vast drug smuggling network that took hash from Morocco to Brazil and cocaine from South America to Europe. The accused allegedly strapped the drugs to their bodies to bring it on or off the pleasure ships in the scheme that ran for nearly two years from early 2012, a court in Marseille has been told. The investigation, which began began as on offshoot of a 2013 murder inquiry, led police to place undercover French and Spanish officers on the Costa Fascinosa cruise ship in March 2014 as it travelled from Brazil towards Venice in Italy. As the vessel approached the Canary Islands, the officers arrested most of the smuggling team and seized 25 kilos of coke. https://www.thelocal.fr/20170522/cocaine-cruise-ship-smugglers-on-trial-for-transatlantic-hash-and-coke-tradeUpload News
