Expedition ship suffered broken pitch propeller

Thu Aug 30 10:36:06 CEST 2018 Timsen

The "Dagmar Aaen" had to enter the port of Aasiaat on Aug 28, 2018, at 1 p.m. after a part of the pitch propeller broke again for the second time within a short period. The damage occurred 11 nautical miles south of Upernavik. The wind allowed the ship to reach the port under sails. Already in Iceland, the ship had to be taken out of the water to repair the propeller. The loss of time could largely be caught up since. How long the second compulsory stop will take was still open. In Aasiaat, the sailing ship was to be repaired on the shore again. For the error analysis, this time also an expert from Denmark was called in, who will examine the entire propulsion system. The ship had left Hamburg at the end of May. On the journey, the crew of skipper Arved Fuchs and experts will deal with the topics of climate change and plastic waste.
