Collision of four ships
CONTAINER salvage is under way today after a box ship collided with three vessels, the Fujian Maritime Safety Administration said. The Hong Kong-flagged, 599teu Far East Grace collided with the three ships at Qingzhou container terminal in Fujian yesterday evening. The box ship’s starboard side collided with the port side of the reefer ship Huan Qiu Hai Yun, which was unloading frozen seafood, when the box ship was berthing at the terminal. Five containers dropped off Far East Grace, and the box rails of the reefer ship were broken. Then, Far East Grace collided with Cheng Gong 79 and Dong Peng, which were also berthing at the terminal, until finally being anchored near Qingzhou Bridge. Fujian MSA said no water leakage or spills have been reported, but operations of the four vessels were suspended.
