Dredger found explosive device

Wed May 27 10:32:43 CEST 2015 Timsen

On May 25, 2015 around 12:30, a suspicious device was discovered aboard the "Freeway" which was operating outside the port of Boulogne-sur-Mer. The CROSS Gris Nez was alerted and immediately contacted the centre of maritime operations (COM) of the maritime Prefecture of the English Channel and North Sea in Cherbourg. Immediately, the Cherbourg COM asked the Group for Analysis of Clearance (GPD) and the North Sea Divers and it was decided to send a technical team aboard the minesweeper "Sagittaire" to the spot. Around 5 p.m. the suspicious device was identified as old ammunition still containing explosives equivalent to ten kilograms of TNT equivalent. It was recovered by the "Sagittaire". The "Freeway" was able to return to the port of Boulogne-sur-Mer.
