Sun Aug 21 13:47:50 CEST 2022 Timsen

The 'Geoquip Elena', en route from Mobile to Den Heldar, with 16 crew members on board, suffered a fire in engine No.2 turbo charger with the engine being fully destroyed in position 49 40 21 N, 008 50 43 W on Aug 18, 2022, 3.7 nautical miles southwest off the Lizard Peninsula, Cornwall, at 10.55 a.m. UTC. Engine No. 4 suffered heavy damage due to spreading flames and extensive heat. The other two engines were unstable due to pipe and other damages. The vessel lost power and was unable to maneuver. The fire fighting tug 'Multratug 20' (IMO: 9572006) and the 'Ocean Challenger' (IMO: 9085209) came to assist. The latter initially took the ship in tow, escorted by the 'Multratug 20', south of Penzance. An Irish Navy patrol vessel acted as on scene commander. Communications via emergency response team at Bernhard Schulte ship management. The vessel has enough fuel for the emergency generator. On Aug 21 the tow was transferred to the 'Multratug 20', and the 'Ocean Challenger' departed the scene. The convoy was heading towards the northeast TSS Lane and French SRR en route to Flushing with an ETA as of Aug 23.
