Ferry suffered engine room fire
A fire broke out in the engine room of the Italian ferry "Sardinia Regina" on Mar 18, 2016 at 2.30 a.m. The ferry was en route from Livorno to Golfo Aranci (Sardinia). The fire started 20 nautical miles off Sardinia. The cause of the fire was short circuit in one of the diesel generators, which inflamed and digress thick smoke. The crew abandoned the compartment and activated the CO2 firefighting system, as the flames were extinguished for less than an hour without causing serious damages, and the ship continued sailing to the port of Golfo Aranci whre she docked over an hour late. The ship was then subject of controls and technical checks by the Master of the Golfo Aranci Port. The commander Daniele Curci, ordered a technical survey of the engine room jointly with the fire brigade. The captaincy opened an administrative investigation in order to ascertain the cause of what the fire. The "Sardinia Regina" was sidelined in Savona before she berthed in Sporgente E. Bricchetto in Vado Ligure for repairs on Mar 19 at 1.20 p.m.
