Allision in Ambon

The 'Sirimau' allided with the pier in the port of Ambon on Dec 11, 2023, at 10.20 a.m. As a result of the impact, the pier was damaged, and the vessel suffuered a breach in its bulbous bow with ensuing water ingress. The accident happened amid bad weather with strong currents, and high wind speeds, which caused the vessel to lose control while carrying out the berthing maneuver, so that it hit the pier until it collapsed, with the pier bolder falling into port waters.

Ferry suffered leak in grounding

The 'Sirimau' has not yet been allowed to resume its normal operations, due to a leak in the hull. The vessel remained docked at the Laurentius Say Maumere port as oof May 23.

Ferry refloated after two days

The KM 'Sirimau' which had been stuck in Ile Ape waters with 784 passengers and 55 crew members on board on shoals for two days was refloated by a tug of the shipping company PT Pelni on May 19 12:00 p.m. (04:00 GMT) with the high tide. The ship was heading for the nearest port of Lewoleba south of the archipelago for security checks before resuming its journey to Maumere on the island of Flores.
