Ship out of control on the Danube

Wed Oct 30 12:58:13 CET 2019 Timsen

On Oct 30, 2019, at 9.15 a.m. the 'Lady Siria', enroute from Tulcea to Torre Annunziata with a cargo of maize, encountered technical problems on the Danube at river km 37,5 on the Tulcea arm. After the propulsion failed and the crew lost control, the disabled ship slammed into a pontoon boat for river trips which was berthed in the central area of Tulcea off the Delta hotel and capsized due to the impact, ending up half submerged. The Tulcea County Police Bureau was notified after the accident which caused only material damage, but no pollution. River traffic was not affected either. The Tulcea captaincy launched an investigation, and also representants of the Transport Police were expected on site. The 'Lady Siria' was moored in pos. 45° 13.43' E 028° 43.29'.
