Allision in Golcuk Limas

Mon Sep 23 13:42:07 CEST 2019 Timsen

The 'Margaretha' allided with the Russian cargo m/v 'Nephrite' in the Golcuk Limas port on Sep 19, 2019. The 'Margaretha' was conducting unberthing manoeuvres, while its ropes parted and it came in contact with the 'Nephrite' at 12.30 a.m. She shifted from place of incident to its nominated anchorage position under supervision of port pilot and tugs. However, structural damages were noted on both vessels side shell plating above the waterline. The 'Nephrite' had sustained damage from aft end with holes and cracks in size of approximately three metres in length. The 'Margaretha' sustained damage from the forward upper forecastle section with various bent, indents. She was was granted departure permission upon completion of formalities and technical inspection. The vessel sailed from Izmit on Sep 20 and berthed at Rijeka on Sep 24. After discharge operations of the 'Nephrite' have been completed at Limas, the vessel shifted from Golcuk to Yalova, where it entered a yard on Sep 21 in the afternoon to carry out permanent repairs. An incident investigation file has been opened by the harbour master incident investigation desk. State and Hull and Machinery surveyors were appointed in order to investigate the cause of the incident and extent of damages. A fine may be imposed depending on investigation result due to breach of safe navigation regulation.

Argentine protestors blockade cargo ship

Fri Mar 09 18:51:39 CET 2012 Timsen

Violent scuffles broke out on the quayside at Comodoro Rivadavia port in the Patagonian province of Chubut over the presence of the "Hanna C" on Mar 7, 2012. Protestors carrying Argentine flags first tried to convince truck drivers, suppliers and dock workers to cease activities and not load the vessel, but then discussions turned into violent clashes in spite of the fence off set up by Coast Guard personnel.Coastguard authorities had to intervene after fighting erupted between demonstrators from the region's Patriotic Movement and dockworkers who were trying to deliver a cargo of cement to the vessel. Among those protesting were several Argentine veterans who fought in the 74-day conflict. The protesters argued that it contravened a law which forbids the docking of British ships involved in the "exploration and exploitation of natural resources around the disputed territory". Port authorities, however, confirmed that the ship had not been involved in such activities but had been contracted to transport a 7,400 tonne load of cement from a local company to Uruguay and Paraguay. The ship docked for two nights in the port and then left with its cargo.
