Thu Aug 24 13:41:37 CEST 2023 Timsen

In the morning of Aug 24, 2023, the Port Authority of Porto Torres carried out the medical evacuation of a 39-year-old Kazakh passenger suffering from epileptic fits on board the "MSC Seaview", bound for Palma de Mallorca with 5,083 passengers on board and 1,507 crew members on board. The rescue operation began at 7:40 a.m., when the ship contacted the operations room of the Turritan Coast Guard. The call also activated the staff of the C.I.R.M. (Centro Internazionale Radio Medico), which after a radio consultation with the on-board doctor for an initial diagnosis, recommended the immediate evacuation of the passenger for urgent admission to a hospital ashore. In order to be able to carry out the transfer in maximum safety, the Harbour Master's Office ordered both the diversion of the ship into calm waters towards the Gulf of Asinara, and deployed the Aw 139 "Rescue Ina" helicopter of the Coast Guard. The patrol boat 'CP 560' was sent to support the aircraft engaged in the operation, which escorted the "MSC Seaview" for the entire duration of the activities, ensuring traffic interdiction, coordination in the rescue area and communications. At approximately 9:30 a.m. the Coast Guard aircraft, which took off from the Decimomannu base, rendezvoused wiht the ship about five nautical miles from the port of Porto Torres and began the procedures for transshipment of the patient. The rescue operations were concluded at 10:10, when the helicopter carrying the passenger, landed at the Santissima Annunziata hospital in Sassari for treatment, while the ship resumed the planned voyagte to Palma de Mallorca.
