Pirate attack off Mayyum thwarted, tanker damaged

The "Muskie" was attacked and fired upon with RPG grenades by pirates at 7 a.m. on May 31, 2017, in position 12 33N 043 30E, seven miles southeast of Mayyum island in the Bab el Mandeb Strait between Somalia and Djibouti. The tanker was en route from Fujairah to Rabigh. The attack was thwarted by armed guards on board. The grenade-shooting pirates were hit b< a bullet from the guards who allegedly caused the pirates' ship to explode. The tanker was fired upon by three rocket-propelled grenades, which damaged the superstructure, but continued the voyage, no injures reported. A ship owned by Maersk Line was supposed to have been nearby when the pirates attacked, as well as naval vessels which quickly secured both ship and crew.
