No salvage progress to date
The owners of the 'Gulf Argo' have informed that no progress has been made so far, regarding salvage prospects of their vessel and the situation remained unchanged on Nov 8. The ship had sunk in bad weather in the Bay of Bengal near Payra Fairway Buoy following an engine breakdown on Sep 13 and is still lying in its sunken state in pos. 21 27 54.0N 090 05 49.0E near the Payra Port Fairway Buoy Bangladesh.
Cargo ship sank in Bay of Bengal
The 'Gulf Argo' sank in bad weather in the Bay of Bengal near the Payra Fairway Buoy after an engine breakdown on Sep 13, 2019. All 14 crew members were rescued by the Bangladesh Navy. A survey team has visited the vessel's position but have not taken any action regarding salvage prospects. The ship remained in position 21 27 54.0 N, 090 05 49.0 E, near the Payra Port Fairway Buoy. The owners were presently receiving quotations from local salvors which are under review by P&I Clubs for their approval. The ship, carrying 152 containers, had sunk enroute from Chittagong to India with 152 containers on board. The rescued crew consisted of Captain Kazi Abdullah Al Muhit, 35, from Noakhali, Chief Engineer Hasan Reza Khalid, 32, from Chittagong, Chief Officer Kazi Mahmub Alam, 28, from Gopalganj, second Engineer Nur Alam Himel, 26, from Narayanganj, third Master Mojammel Hossain, 24, from Noakhali, Bosun mate Rafuk Ullah, 59, from Feni, Able Seaman M Zubayer Hossain, 24, from Chittagong, Ordinary Seaman Sujan Mukerjee, 20, from Faridpur, Ordinary Seaman M Sahabuddin, 21, from Bhola, Shahdat Hossain, 37, Laxmipur, Zamirul Islam, 30, Chittagong, Shaheed Mia, 23, Rangpur, M Raju, 25, Chittagong and Abdur Rashid, 50, Chittagong.
