Bulkcarrier grounded on Mississippi
The "SBI Hydra" lost power heading southbound on the Mississippi ran aground just above the Head of Passes 80 miles south of the 12-mile anchorage on Feb 24, 2019, at 11 p.m. Four tugs were deployed to refloat the vessel. The maximum draft for vessels transiting around the grounding remained 35 feet. There remained severe shoaling in Southwest Pass, Head of Passes, and the Pilottown/Cubit's Gap area. There are currently seven dredgers, five hopper dredgers and two cutterheads, working to restore the channel. The vessel could be refloated on Feb 25 and berthed at Venice, Louisiana, at 5 a.m.
