Allision in Port Stanley

Sat Sep 07 14:13:54 CEST 2019 Timsen

The "Pesca Vaqeiro", loaded with hake, allided with a facility of the Falkland Interim Port and Storage System while berthing at Port Stanley, Falkland Islands, in the morning of Sep 5, 2019. The accident was caused by a propulsion failure. The vessel’s bow was seriously damaged with breaches and dents above the waterline. The FIPASS was closed for some hours. A Falklands shore boat guided the 'Pesca Vaqueiro' to its berth. The reefer trawler now has to be repaired and there are two alternatives, Montevideo, Uruguay or return to Vigo. There might be an evaluation of damages to FIPASS which will have to be addressed by the Vaqueiro brothers company. Trawler with castaways arrived in Montevideo

Wed Feb 20 12:24:56 CET 2019 Timsen

On Feb 18 at 10.50 p.m. the "Pesca Vaqueiro" arrived in the the port of Montevideo to disembark the 30 Asian sailors - 22 of Chinese and eight of Indonesian nationality - of the "Zhong Yuan Yu 11" it had rescued and to assess the damage to the hull after the unloading of the fish. The ships had been in collision 208 miles east of Argentina off Comodoro Rivadavia in an area commonly known as mile 201 by reasons which have not yet been disclosed, on Feb 15. The Naval Prefecture of Argentina had sent the "GC-24 Mantilla" of the Coastguard, which was patrolling the Exclusive Economic Zone, and the aircraft PA 22 to the scene. The trawler from Vigo had sustained limited bow damage. The Prefecture of the Port of Montevideo informed the Office of the Prosecutor, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, the National Directorate of Migration, the Maritime Health and the National Port Administration, and made contact with the corresponding embassies to report the safety of the crew members. Collision off Argentine

Fri Feb 15 19:26:09 CET 2019 Timsen

The "Pesca Vaqueiro" was in collision with the Chinese "Zhongyuanyu 11" on Feb 15, 2019, at 2 a.m. The "Iván Nores" of Pesquerías Nores, "Capricorn" of Pescapuerta and the "Playa Pesmar Dos" of the Pesquerías Marinenses participated in the rescue operation at the maritime boundary of Argentina (known as mile 201, northwest of the Malvinas). The crew of the Chinese ship which was sinking had to be rescued. The "Pesca Vaqueiro" alerted the rest of the Galician fleet in the area and rescued about 30 sailors of the Chinese ship. The rest was taken aboard the "Iván Nores". They were taken to Montevideo. As soon as the incident occurred, a warning signal was activated and it was received by PRO, the Coast Guard System, which immediately initiated an SAR operation to assist both vessels. The Coast Guard vessel "GC-24 Mantilla", which was patrolling the Exclusive Economic Zone, was sent to the scene together with an airplane which was overflying the area in coordination with the Coast Guard. Three of the fishermen who participated in the rescue operation had violated the satellite positioning control systems, the "Iván Nores" was without AIS for days and the "Playa Pesmar Dos" was one day without AIS. At the time of the collision, the Spanish fishing vessel had turned off the mandatory AIS system while the Chinese jigger had it on.
