Bulk carriers got entangled off Chittagong

The bulk carrier 'Chitral' (IMO: 9272876), loaded with 25000 tonnes of imported clinker for Mongla Port, got entangled with the 'Sarwar Jahan' at the outer anchorage of Chittagong on Aug 24, 2023 due to bad weather. The anchor chain of the Sarwar Jahan' got entangled with the vessel's propeller. The propeller has been cut away and removed on Aug 28.. The vessel was now in a stable condition. Underwater surveys will be undertaken before the vessel is shifted to Mongla Port. The 'Sarwar Jahan' lost its anchor chain in the incident. The P&I Club had been involved in resolving the matter. As of Aug 29, the 'Chitral' remained stationary in pos. 22° 09.05' N 091° 46.82' E, and the 'Sanwar Jahan' in pos. 22° 13.72' N 091° 45.90' E.

Detention in Chittagong

The "Sarwar Jahan" has been arrested on Dec 24, 2018, as per orders of the local High Court of Chittagong in a litigation dated Dec 23. The vessel had arrived at the port on Dec 1 for transfer of cargo. The ship was released on Dec 26 after the bunker payment issue with an Indian firm was resolved.
