Disabled bulkcarrier towed to Brest

Thu Mar 21 11:45:01 CET 2019 Timsen

After spending the last weekend at anchor off the Belle-Ile where the crew tried to repair a propulsion damage, the "Spanaco Progress" was towed to Brest in the afternoon of March 19, 2019, by the tug "Amber II" where the tugs "Clairvoyant" and "Robuste" took over and pulled it to No. 4 repair dock of the CIB Brest Shipyard at 4.30 p.m., where technicians of the the Damen Shipyard will repair the ship's engine, a seven-cylinder STX MAN with a power of 3,807 horsepower. Spare parts were sent by the engine manufacturer. The freighter had a cargo of 6,000 tons of quartz on board and had sailed from Port Said on Feb 9. It left Brest again on April 4 at 5 p.m. and headed towards the English Channel.
