Faulty fuel line off Harwich

Sun Nov 29 16:44:37 CET 2020 Timsen

On Nov 27, 2020, the 'Sylvia', while en route from Lilla Edet to Saint Brieuc, with 1.600 tonnes of sawn timber as cargo, suffered an engine failure due to a faulty fuel line. As it needed replacing, the sihp anchored 40 miles from Harwich in position 51 47 44 N, 002 21 33 E at 10 p.m. The vessel was not impeding traffic in its anchor position. Repairs were finished on Nov 28 at 1.10 a.m. The vessel was underway again at 2.20 a.m. with an ETA as of Nov 29.

Distressed cargo ship towed to Tallinn

Fri Jan 09 10:34:22 CET 2015 Timsen

On Jan 8, 2015, around 2 p.m. the "Sylvia" with a cargo of cement and a crew of seven people on board suffered an engine failure in the Gulf of Finland south of Kalbådagrund off Porvoo and went adrift. The ship which had sailed from Liepaja the previous day managed to drop anchor southeast of Kalbåda ground, and the MRCC in Helsinki was alerted. The Coastguard was alerted and helicopters and the Coastguard vessel "Turva" were prepared to take off. In the area winds of 12-14 meters per second were blowing with wave heights of three meters. Around 8 p.m. the Estonian tug "Pallas" started to tow the ship to Tallinn with the "Turva" being ready to assist. The cargo ship was safely berthed at Palkasaare 36 on Jan 9 at 9.15 a.m.

Overheated pipe caused smoke

Fri Jun 20 17:15:03 CEST 2014 Timsen

On June 19, 2014, at 6:06 p.m. alarm was raised in the port Norrköping after a fire broke out in the engine room of the "Sylvia". Fire brigades of three fire stations responded with seven engines and 19 men. The freighter had unloaded a cargo of fertilizer and was berthed at the Supra Quay west of the Händelö Bridge. An examination of the engine revealed that an overheated pipe was the reason for an increase in heat and smoke in the engine room. Emergency services left the scene at 7:15 p.m.
