Pollution fine imposed on bulk carrier

A pollution fine was imposed on the 'True Harmony', during its stay at Mersin, by the local municipality environmental pollution prevention department on Aug 17, 2021, due to a breach of local regulation as per Marpol rules. Subsequently, the local authority opened an investigation file. As a result of the investigations, the vessel was found guilty of dirty ballast water discharge and was imposed a fine of 177.500 US Dollars. The vessel's departure permission was cancelled by the Harbour Master until the payment of the fine, together with the cleaning expenses. The vessel left Mersin on Au 19 at midnight, headed to Triipoli with an ETA as of 4 p.m the same day.

Bulkcarrier saved 41 survivors of migrant tragedy

On Apr 16, 2016, the "Eastern Confidence", enroute from Novorossiysk to Aviles, saved 41 survivors of a sunken refugee boat 175 Kilometers off the coast of Pylos. They were transferred onto a boat of the Greek Coastguard and arrived in Kalamata upon the Peloponnes an on Apr 17. Among them were 37 men, three women and a toddler of one year from Somalia, Ethiopia, Egypt and Sudan. They were underway from Tobruk to Italy when they were to be transferred onto a larger smuggler boat which was overloaded and capsized. They saved themselves with the smaller boat. Up to 500 migrants may have drowned.
