SIRIUS III
The Mar del Plata Regional Port Consortium is promoting a plan to recover and reorganize operational space at the Port of Mar del Plata through the scrapping of the 'Sirius III' by the TPA Shipyard. The work started in September 2025 and was now in its final stages. The 'Sirius III' has been inactive for years at the North Breakwater. The work plan includes various strategies for managing inactive vessels. In addition to scrapping, some vessels were to be towed to other terminals or scuttled at the Cristo Rey underwater park, off the coast of Mar del Plata, where they become attractions for recreational and scientific diving. The scrapping of the 'Sirius III' not only reclaimed space, but also enabled the recycling of sheet metal for the naval industry and the reuse of parts with useful life in other vessels. Once these tasks have been completed, the Consortium will continue scrapping the fishing vessels 'Graciela' and 'Coral Azul', currently located in front of commercial docks.
