Russia may utilize Kerch based Zaliv Shipyard for building Arctic tankers
Kerch, Crimea based Zaliv Shipyard is the only yard capable in Russia of building Arctic ships of large displacement, a spokesman for the United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC) said commenting the statement of Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin, RIA Novosti reports. Earlier Dmitry Rogozin has said that Crimean shipyards will participate in the construction of vessels to develop the Russian Arctic shelf. Today the orders for the class vessels are being executed by shipyards based in St. Petersburg and in the Far East. Arctic exploration is one of the main directions of Russia's policy in recent years. "Crimea has the only Russian shipyard with a 300-meter long, 50-meter wide slipway. Such a slipway allows building supertankers and LNG carriers of deadweight exceeding 150,000 tonnes," RIA Novosti quoted USC' Alexey Kravchenko as saying.
Vladimir Putin orders construction of Kerch bridge to be completed in 2018
RF President Vladimir Putin has ordered the Government determine the amount and the sources of the financing for the construction of a transport passage across the Kerch Strait having foreseen the completion of the project in 2018. According to the list of orders on transport development published at the website of Russian Government, the order is to be implemented by July 1, 2014. Besides, By June 1, 2014, RF Transport Ministry jointly with the interested federal executive authorities are to submit proposals on the mechanisms to be applied for the long-term development of port facilities in the Crimean Federal District considering the existing plans on the development of port facilities in the Azov-Black Sea Basin.
