Abandoned yacht drifted ashore 11 months after collision

Mon Jun 30 12:43:51 CEST 2025 Timsen

The wreck of the 'Acrobatica' was discovered on the shores of El Ouatia, southern Morocco. The yacht was abandoned on the Atlantic in July 2024 after a violent collision with the tanker 'Silver Ray' during the Transat Québec–Saint-Malo race. Skipper Alberto Riva and his two crew members Tommaso Stella, and Jean Marre were rescued by the crew of the tanker and disembarked in the Azores. The boat itself was left adrift, presumed lost at sea. It has since drifted more than 1,300 miles, pushed by the wind and currents, making landfall on the Moroccan coast near El Ouatia beach, near the Canary Islands, The skipper's team was now mobilizing to organize the recovery of the sailboat. Alberto Riva planned to travel to Morocco after his next race to supervise the operation and ensure the cleanup of the site. Abandoned yacht sighted four months after collision

Mon Jun 30 12:43:35 CEST 2025 Timsen

On Nov 9, 2024, the abandoned Class 40 yacht 'Acrobatica', owned by the Italian sailor Alberto Riva, was spotted by the cargo m/v 'Izerborg' about 350 nautical miles west of the Azores. The boat was abandoned on July 8, 2024, after a collision with the tanker 'Silver Ray' approximately 300 miles from the Azores. Riva and his crew, Tommy Stella and Jean Marre, were forced to abandon the yacht which was thought to have sunk, but has nevertheless remained afloat in the Atlantic Ocean. After the report, the posotopm was passed on to the MRCC, which reported the find to Alberto Riva. The Italian skipper’s team is now planning a possible salvage operation for the damaged boat. Alberto Riva’s team was now trying to determine exactly where the 'Acrobatica' is located in order to assess the feasibility of a salvage operation. A possible salvage could provide crucial evidence.
