One fisherman missing after sinking of cutter

The Norwegian Accident Investigation Board will investigate the sinking of the “Amalie Sofie” in the Varangerfjord in Finnmark on Aug 5, 2025. The fishing vessel was out trawling for shrimp when it listed, capsized and then sank. Two people survived, while the fisherman Olaf Birger Danielsen, 76, from Alta was missing and presumed dead. An SART transponder was activated when the vessel sank. A large-scale rescue operation was initiated after the Northern Norway Rescue Centre (HRS) received the signal at 8:10 p.m. from the emergency beacon. A rescue helicopter found a life raft with two fishermen inside. They were transported to the hospital in Kirkenes. The search has been ongoing throughout the night with local fishing boats, the rescue boat and the rescue helicopter from Banak. On Aug 6 at 4:30 a.m.,, the police announced that the rescue operation had ended and that they would now search for the missing person at sea and along beaches in the area. In addition, an aerial search has been conducted outside the area in question. The wreck was located on a water depth of 300 meters on the evening of Aug 7. Shrimp trawler rescued crew of blazing cutter

On the evening of April 12, 2025, the crew of the "Amalie Sofie" rescued the fishermen of a cutter, which had suffered an engine room fire, which was soon beyong control, outside Nordvågen, southeast of Honningsvåg, in the Nordkapp municipality. Captain Johansen received the mayday call of the other ship and was on scene about five minutes later. The fishing boat was about to be engulfed in flames. The two crew members were standing on the deck in survival suits. The stern of the boat was burning,and the blaze was spreading fast. The fishermen jumped into the sea to escape the flames. One of them drifted behind the boat, where the flames were the worst. The 'Amalie Sofie' had to circle around the burning boat, but managed to throw a rope towards him.
