Search ship moved to area to investigate contact in 950 meters depth

In the early morning of Dec 3 the "Malvinas Islands" was moved to a position in the search area for the ARA "San Juan" where at 950 meters depth ametallic contact had been corroborated by two vessels with different sensors. The contact was detected by the Chilean "Cabo de Hornos" and the Norwegian "Skandi Patagonia" and was now being investigated. In the morning an attempt was made to submerge the Russian robot "Pantera Plus" from the Islas Malvinas", but the weather situation began to be deteriorate with winds that caused waves of two metersheight so the operation had to be suspended. It also remains to corroborate a detected metallic contact at about 700 meters depth and another at 800 meters which will be explored "on another occasion. Initially, there were six contacts detected in the area by the different vessels participating in the search, but two were already dismissed and work was now underway in those that were in the process of verification. On Dec 2 a metallic contact located at 700 meters depth by the "Atlantis", of oceanographic research of the United States, which was now in the port of Comodoro Rivadavia, was ruled out A delegation that had traveled to Germany last week to obtain information from the submarine on behalf of the builder Thyssen in terms of design and construction, has returned to Argentine. The documentation will be handed over to the federal judge of Caleta Olivia Marta Yáñez, who was investigating the disappearance of the ARA "San Juan".

Islas Malvinas trying to detect lost submarine

The ARA "Islas Malvinas", having sailed from Comodoro Rivadavia, on Dec 1, 2017, has reached a position to try to determine if a signal detected by sensors at 477 meters depth corresponded to the lost submarine ARA San "Juan" which disappeared 17 days ago with its 44 crew members. Five vessels that were sweeping in the waters of the South Atlantic with oceanographic or scientific research units, using different sensors such as multibeam probes, side scan sonar and towed sonar. The Navy promised to continue with the search of the submarine on the seabed until exhausting all means available.
