The Russian captain and chief engineer of the Greek-owned "North Spirit", and the captain of the "Argo" - abducted on May 16 when unidentified gunmen raided their ships - are on their way to neighbouring Nigeria after their release on July 3, 2010.

The owner of the cargo vessel "North Spirit" on May 21 at 1:30 p.m. succeeded in contacting the abducted crewmembers of the vessel once again, the 2nd time since May 19. The captain confirmed that his senior mechanic and also the captain of the Lithuanian reefer "Argo" were abducted, and are currently in Nigeria together.

On May 16, 2010, at 11.55 p.m. the “Argo” while being anchored on Duala road, Cameroon, was approached by two boats with armed persons on board. The vessel issued an alert message, and the crew gathered in the superstructure and locked all doors and portholes. The assaulters boarded the vessel and in 10-15 minutes broke one of the doors. They took ship’s safe and the captain as a hostage, and then left vessel. 20 minutes after the assault a navy boat came to the vessel and escorted it to port, where it was moored for discharge. The owner of the vessel, the Limarko Co., is in contact with local authorities trying to find out whereabouts of the master.
