Quarantine ship arrived in Messina
The 'Aurelia' arrived in Messina on July 9, 2021, at dawn from Augusta with 148 migrants on board who spent a few days in the first reception center of Lampedusa. 100 landed in the city, and ship subsequently left the port at 9.20 a.m. on July 10. One man who was tested positive for Covid-19 was transferred to the Polyclinic. Another person remained under observation because he had been in close contact with the infected person.
58 migrants disembarked after quarantine
The quarantine ship 'Aurelia' arrived in Pozzallo in the morning of June 26, 2021. Departing from Augusta, 58 migrants, all men, who have reached the end of the quarantine period, were disembarked in Pozzallo. There were 53 people of Tunisian origin, three Gambians, a citizen of Libya and one from Algeria. The destinations were still unknown. The ship left the port again the same evening and sailed to Augusta where it arrived on June 27.
Ports ban quarantine ferry from berthing
After Trapani, Augusta also refused permittance for the 'Aurelia' to dock with 273 migrants on board, of whom at least twenty were coronavirus positive. After the no to the berthing decreed by the mayor of Trapani, Giacomo Tranchida, a similar denial was ordered by the mayor of Augusta, Cettina Di Pietro. The 'Aurelia', in fact, initially destined for the Trapani port, was then sent to the port of Augusta, but he ordered the absolute ban on berthing. The ferry will therefore remain outside the Sicilian ports, at least until a new decision is made.News schreiben
