Ferry sold and renamed
On Sep 29, 2025, Fred. Olsen Express formally took ownership of the 'Fortuny'. The ship was sold by Armas Trasmediterránea to Liberty Lines in July, who immediately resold her to Fred. Olsen Express. The ferry was simultaneously with the formal change of owner renamed ' Buenavista Express' and will now undergo a docking that, in addition to a number of technical maintenance tasks, will include a change to Fred. Olsen Express’s livery. The vessel is expected to be deployed on Fred. Olsen Express’s Huelva-Tenerife/Gran Canaria route during January. If this will be in partnership with Baleària, or as Fred. Olsen Express, depends on if CNMC (the Spanish competition authorities) then has approved Baleària’s acquisition of Grupo Naviera Armas Trasmediterránea. The ferry sailed from Almeria on Sep 30 and berthed in Las Palmas on Oct 3.
Medevac by helicopter
In the night of Oct 23, 2022, the SAR helicopter Helimer 202 carried out the medical evacuation of a passenger from the 'Ciudad Autónoma de Melilla', due to a suspected heart attack. The patient was hoisted aboard the helicopter and transferred to the Almería airport, where an ambulance was waiting for the transport to a local hospital.
Fortuny without fortune
In the morning of Sep 2, 2011, the "Fortuny" was in collision with the highspeed ferry "Ferico Garcia Lorc" in Palma de Mallorca Both ships were damaged, no injjuries reported. The "Federico García Lorca" had to undergo surveys before proceeding to Ibiza. The ship sailed two hours delayed. The "Fortuny“ departed for Barcelona in the midday hours after only slight damages were found. Already on Apr 11, 2010, the ship had suffered a mishap in Palma when it allided with a quay.
