Barge allided with fender system on Intracoastal Waterway

Thu Jul 09 11:42:37 CEST 2015 Timsen

A barge of the Florida Marine Transporters pushed by the "Captain Tracy L. Cheramie" allided with the safety barrier in front of a piling on the Foley Beach Express toll bridge in Orange Beach on July 8, 2015, at 2.30 a.m. The tug was pushing two barges loaded with gasoline and diesel, one with 16,074 barrels of diesel and 8,380 barrels of gasoline the other with 25,815 barrels of gasoline. The bridge had to be closed to traffic as the city waited for inspectors from the private bridge company and was opened on July 9 at 6 a.m. The bridge spans the Intracoastal Waterway. During the closure traffic was being diverted to the Alabama 59 bridge in Gulf Shores The owner of the barge company, Dennis Pasentine along with another lawyer from the firm came to Orange Beach in the morning to meet with the owner of the bridge and guaranteed the company will pay for all of the damage to the bridge fender system. The accident was under investigation by the Coast Guard with the company fully cooperating with that investigation.
