Cruise ship saved distressed mariner

The "Carnival Paradise" has come to the rescue of the sailor of a sinking boat on May 18, 2019. The cruise ship was heading back towards its homeport in Tampa, Florida. The boat sent a distress call 13 miles north of Cozumel. The cruise ship diverted and immediately activated its rescue procedures which included the launch of lifeboat 15. The man was found in the water and brought on board the "Carnival Paradise". He was provided with food, water, and medical treatment. A rescue boat arrived from the Mexican Coast Guard to take him back to land. The "Carnival Paradise" was on a 4-night cruise which departed Port of Tampa on May 16. Search for missing passenger suspended

US Coast Guard crews suspended their search for a passenger lost over board from the "Carnival Paradise" on May 23 at 9 p.m., about 85 miles west of Fort Myers. Coast Guard watchstanders had received a call at approximately 10 a.m., Tuesday via VHF-FM marine band radio from the cruise ship stating the man was missing and reportedly went overboard. Coast Guard rescue crews consisted of a C-130 Hercules aircraft and an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter from the Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater, an HC-144 Ocean Sentry aircraft crew from the Coast Guard Air Station Miami and the crew of the Coast Guard Cutter "Isaac Mayo", homeported in Key West. They searched for approximately 55 hours covering 3,059 square miles. The cruise ship was transiting from Tampa to Key West when the incident took place.

Search for passenger missing over board off Fort Myers

The US Coast Guard was searching for a 50-year-old male reported missing from the "Carnival Paradise" on May 22, 2018, approximately 85 miles west of Fort Myers, Florida. Missing was Brian Lamonds, 50, Greensboro, North Carolina. Coast Guard Sector Key West watchstanders received a call at approximately 10 a.m., from the cruise ship stating the man was missing and reportedly went overboard. A Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew, a Coast Guard Air Station Miami HC-144 Ocean Sentry aircraft crew and the crew of the Coast Guard Cutter "Isaac Mayo", homeported in Key West, were aiding in the search.
