Cruise ship delayed back from yard stay

Wed Feb 14 12:30:59 CET 2024 Timsen

The 'Carnival Vista' has completed her dry dock refreshment and refurbishment in Cadiz, poor weather during the ship’s transatlantic crossing to return to her Florida homeport was delaying her return to service by one day. Guests booked on the first cruise will now be sailing a 2-night itinerary instead of the originally planned 3-night cruise with embarkation pushed back a full day, and travelers have been given some options for the inconvenience. The Carnival Cruise Line has reached out to guests booked on the first post-dry-dock sailing of the ship to alert them to a delay in the ship’s return to service. Because of inclement weather in the Atlantic Ocean that has slowed the ship’s return to Port Canaveral, coupled with a slight delay leaving Cadiz, the cruise will now depart on Feb 16, 2024 rather than Feb 15 as originally scheduled. Guests should also note that embarkation times have been revised, with all embarkation appointments moved forward one hour. An 11-11:30 a.m. terminal arrival appointment will now be 10-10:30, for example. The 'Carnival Vista' will now be calling at Nassau on Feb 17 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., but will no longer have a day at sea. Shore excursions for Nassau that have been booked through Carnival Cruise Line will be moved to accommodate the change in visit date. Passengers who may have made independent tour arrangements will need to contact their tour operators for options, including cancellation or adjustment if available.

Cruise ship saved six of 12 castaways

Thu Dec 14 09:27:43 CET 2023 Timsen

The 'Carnival Vista' saved six men in the night of Dec 12, 2023, 30 nautical miles north of the Dominican Republic, after the small cargo m/v 'Two Brothers' had capsized overnight, while six others were still reported missing. Under the direction of Captain Paolo Severini and in the coordination of Carnival’s Fleet Operations Center in Miami, the ship immediately changed course when an emergency alert was received by an onboard monitoring system. The officers on board spotted six men on a life raft and stopped to bring them on board. Rescued were the captain Valentín Polanco Vásquez, Fernando José Cordero Martínez, Ricardo Camacho, Darvin Valentín Polanco Calvo and Julio Martín Guerrero. The 'Carnival Vista' proceeded with its scheduled visit to Amber Cove. The ship had started a six-day voyage on Dec 10. A Coast Guard Operation Turks and Caicos MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew rescued the other six people who were hanging on to debris of the sunken vessel. All six castaways were hoisted onto the helicopter, and transferred to emergency medical services in Puerto Plata. All 12 survivors were reported in good health. The “Two Brothers” had left the Puerto Plata dock on Dec 12 at approximately 6:30 p.m., headed to the Turks & Caicos Islands. and transported several vehicles and containers. It was thought to have been overloaded and thus sank in the Atlantic. Medevac off Galveston

Mon Apr 10 12:04:47 CEST 2023 Timsen

The US Coast Guard medevaced a 93-year-old woman from the 'Carnival Vista' 90 miles off Galveston, Texas, on April 9, 2023. Coast Guard Sector Houston-Galveston watchstanders received a medevac request on April 8 at 10:18 p.m. from the cruise ship, stating a 93-year-old female passenger was experiencing symptoms of respiratory failure, pneumonia, and septic shock. Watchstanders consulted with the duty flight surgeon, who recommended a medevac. A Coast Guard Air Station Houston MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew launched to conduct the medevac. The helicopter crew arrived on scene, hoisted the passenger and a nurse from the cruise ship, and transported them to the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston in stable condition.
