Cruise ship rescued three migrants
Three Cuban migrants were rescued in the evening of Feb 25, 2022, about 50 miles from Cuba by the crew of the 'Celebrity APEX' from a rustic boat. Guests on the open decks spotted the raft, which prompted the vessel to change direction to be able to head towards the small raft. Due to windy conditions, the sea had been rough. Despite those conditions, the cruise ship could position the small raft on its leeward side. At that point, the three refugees could be picked up safely, while the dingy was seen to be taking on significant amounts of water. The cruise ship was on its way back to Florida at that time. Slow evacuation in Saint Nazaire
The slow evacuation of the 'Celebrity Apex' continues. The owner Celebrity Cruises has just dispatched another cruise ship to repatriate 126 Indian nationals. But no one yet knows when the liner will leave the Loire estuary. On May 21 the 'Celebrity Infinity' arrived in Saint-Nazaire to take on board a part of the crew of the 'Celebrity Apex', still docked in Saint-Nazaire, almost two months after its delivery by Chantiers de l'Aantique. While several hundred people were repatriated on commercial flights, more than 500 people remained to be evacuated. It will be necessary to maintain approximately 200 people to ensure the maintenance and safety of the vessel designed for 2,900 passengers in addition to the crew members. Uncertainty still remains on the departure date of the 'Celebrity Apex' from Saint-Nazaire.
