World's Largest Short Sea Ro-Ro Vessel Named in Dublin

MV Celine, the world’s largest short sea Ro-Ro ship, was christened on April 23, 2018 in a ceremony at Dublin Port with guest of honour, An Taoiseach, Leo Varadkar TD, Godmother to the new ship, Geraldine O’Reilly, and the port’s chaplains. The formal ceremony is a long-held tradition intended to bring good fortune to the ship and involves breaking a champagne bottle against the hull as the ship is christened. To mark today’s occasion, new Irish music commissioned by Dublin Port and performed by John Sheahan of the Dubliners and Colm Mac Con Iomaire of the Frames will premiere at the ceremony, heralding the ship’s naming in front of invited guests representing her Luxembourg-based owner CLdN and the wider European shipping industry.

First call on the Thames for world’s largest short sea ro/ro freighter

The largest short sea roll-on/roll-off freight vessel in the world, CLdN’s Celine called on the Thames for the first time this week, Port of London Authority said in its press release. Celine is the first ship in a series of eight that CLdN is adding to its fleet; she has just arrived in Europe from builders Hyundai Heavy Industries in South Korea. CLdN is deploying Celine on its weekly itinerary, calling at Purfleet on the Thames, Rotterdam, Zeebrugge and Dublin. CLdN has described the new ships, which offer 8,000 lane metres of cargo capacity as a ‘game changing’ investment. Their innovative design offers flexible deck configuration, enabling them to cater for a mix of trailers, containers, high and heavy cargoes, cars, vans and trucks. The company’s C.Ro Ports division is simultaneously expanding its terminals to cater for the larger vessels, with expansion planned for their Purfleet base on the Thames.

World’s Largest Short Sea RoRo Vessel Arrives In Rotterdam

Today (Oct. 26, 2017) marks the first call of MV Celine on the port of Rotterdam. The ship docked at C.RO Ports’ facility in Brittanniëhaven (port number 5230). The Celine is the largest Short Sea Ro/Ro vessel in the world. MV Celine, which arrived from the South Korean port of Ulsan, was built by Hyundai Heavy Industries. The shipping line CLdN (Compagnie Luxembourgeoise d’Navigation) will be deploying the brand-new vessel in a weekly rotation along its itinerary Rotterdam – Bruges-Zeebrugge – Dublin – Bruges-Zeebrugge – Rotterdam – London – Rotterdam. Formerly known by the name Cobelfret, CLdN has been providing ro/ro services in North-West Europe for many years.
