Suspected human smuggling vessel interdicted

Wed Nov 22 09:47:10 CET 2023 Timsen

US Coast Guard and Customs and Border Protection's Air and Marine Operations personnel interdicted a vessel suspected of human smuggling off the coast of Malibu in the morning of Nov 21, 2023. While on a routine patrol, the 'Blackfin' detected a 41-foot pleasure craft operating 16 miles off the Malibu coast at 4:16 p.m. Personnel at Coast Guard Sector Los Angeles - Long Beach diverted the Coast Guard Cutter 'Halibut', launched a small boat from the Station Los Angeles - Long Beach, and requested surface and air assets from AMO and CBP's Office of Field Operations Special Enforcement Group to investigate. The law enforcement teams arrived on the scene and detained 23 undocumented non-citizens attempting to enter the country illegally. AMO took the vessel in tow and transported it with the people onboard to shore for further processing by SEG officers. AMO seized the suspected smuggling vessel.

Coast Guard rescued 19 migrants off Redondo Beach

Sun Aug 21 13:02:53 CEST 2022 Timsen

The US Coast Guard rescued 19 migrants from a disabled panga-style vessel off the coast of Redondo Beach on Aug 20, 2022. Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Los Angeles-Long Beach received a call at 9:10 a.m. from a good Samaritan reporting a disabled vessel in distress off the coast of Redondo Beach. Sector Los Angeles-Long Beach watchstanders coordinated the launch of a small boat from the Coast Guard Station Los Angeles-Long Beach, helicopters from the Air Station San Francisco’s Forward Operating Base Point Mugu and the Air Station San Diego, and diverted the 'Blackfin' to assist in the search. Los Angeles County Baywatch Marina Del Rey and Baywatch Redondo also launched two rescue boats to assist. The helicopter of the Air Station San Diego located the disabled vessel 18 miles west of Redondo Beach with 19 people aboard. With the help of Baywatch Redondo, the boat from the Coast Guard Station Los Angeles safely transferred the castaways from the disabled vessel to safety, and the Coast Guard Cutter towed the disabled vessel to the Coast Guard Base Los Angeles-Long Beach, where Customs and Border Protection Office of Field Operations agents will process the people on board, and Air and Marine Operations will seize the vessel.
