Search for missing boat people ended

Fri Jan 28 10:32:56 CET 2022 Timsen

After the crash of a migrant boat crashed off the Florida coast, there was little hope of finding any of the more than 30 boat people who remained missing alive. The active search for possible survivors ended in evening of Jan 27, there were no new clues. One man survived, five bodies were recovered and 34 others were still missing and believed to be dead. The migrants were en route from the Bimini archipelago in the Bahamas to Florida when their seven-meter-long boat capsized in the night of Jan 22. On Jan 25, the sole survivor was spotted clinging to the hull of the boat. He said none of the occupants were wearing life jackets. From the start, the Coast Guard had little hope of finding survivors in the area because of the turbulent Gulf Stream. The area had been flown over and combed through several times with good visibility, without success. The Department of Homeland Security launched an investigation into suspected human smuggling.
