Vessel sank, seven rescued, two missing
The 'Chang Xin' with a crew of nine on board, including six Taiwanese and three Indonesians, issued a distress signal on Nov 20, 2019, at 9.50 p.m. after it started sinking near Chuanshi island in the Minjiang River estuary, Fuzhou. The ship had been in collision with an unidentified vessel and suffered water ingress. In the morning of Nov 21 a helicopter crew spotted a life raft with six crew members inside. One crew member managed to swim to the shore. By 9 a.m. on Nov 21, two Taiwanese crew members were still missing. The provincial SAR center has dispatched three patrol boats and coordinated the East China Sea Rescue Bureau to send professional rescue ships and helicopters to the scene. Dozens civil ships were also involved in the rescue operation. The other ship in the collision was being investigated.
