Container ship boarded by armed robbers
While the 'CMA CGM Caimep' was moored in position 14 32 45N, 120 54 48E, at the Manila quarantine anchorage, she was boarded by five robbers on Aug 13, 2021, at 1.30 a.m. The Master reported that perpetrators had been sighted on board. The duty-able seaman was tied up to the centre bollard on the forecastle with the mooring stopper rope by the perpetrators with a pistol pointed to his head. The forward paint store padlock was broken, and 27 drums of paint were reported missing. The Master reported the theft to port authorities and the Philippine Coastguard which launched an investigation.
Perpetrators stole spare parts
On Feb 13, 2021, at 5.30 a.m. the 3rd officer of the 'ALS Juventus' that the padlock hinge for the passageway door leading to the engine room was broken while the ship was berthed at Jakarta. There was no sign of any perpetrators onboard or nearby. The spare parts for the auxiliary engine were reported missing.
