Owner asked to develop salvage plan
After the 'Cong Thanh 07' sank in Ha Tinh waters, the Ha Tinh Port Authority requested the ship's owner to develop a salvage plan, ensure safety in the area, and recover all the oil on board on the morning of May 27. The ship's owner was asked to mark the location where the ship sank and place warning buoys in the area. At the same time, a maritime alert was issued to warn passing vessels. On the afternoon of May 26, the rescue vessel 'SAR 631' transported the 11 crew members from the provinces of Thai Binh, Thanh Hoa, and Binh Phuoc to Vung Ang. The vessel's tank contained approximately 30 tons of DO oil and an additional 100–200 liters of lubricating oil, as well as a cargo of more than 4,932 tons of coal. The sunken vessel was located in the sea of Ky Loi Commune (Ky Anh City, Ha Tinh Province), at a depth of approximately 25–30 meters, about 6–7 nautical miles from Vung Ang-Son Duong Port in Ky Anh City in the waters of Ky Loi commune. 10 of 11 crew members rescued after ship sank in storm
On May 25, 2025, the 'Cong Thanh 07' developed a list amid adverse weather in Ha Tinh with 11 crew members on board, loaded with 4,900 tons of coal, en route from Quang Ninh to Quang Binh, and issued a distress call at 8.40 p.m. amid northeast winds of force 5-6 and rough seas. Following water ingress and engine failure, the ship sank at 9.30 p.m. in pos. 18°06'53 N 106°30'30 E approximately nine nautical miles from Vung Ang Port on a water depth of 30 metres. The police, border guards, and port authorities; with helicopter support were mobilized along with the SAR vessel 'SAR 631' and seven other ships. To assist in the SAR opperation, the Vietnam Maritime Administration, in coordination with the Vietnam Maritime SAR Coordination Center, the Port Authority, and the Border Guard of Ha Tinh and Quang Binh provinces, has established a command post at the Quang Binh Port Authority in Quang Dong commune, Quang Trach district. The EC-155-B1 aircraft VN-8624 of the Northern Helicopter Company, Army Corps 18/Ministry of National Defense was also deployed to assist. The search was expanded from the location of the sunken ship to the entire Quang Binh area. At approximately 5:45 a.m. on May 26, the fishing boat 'QB 93176 TS' found one crew member about 17 nautical miles south-southeast of the accident site and brought him ashore. At 11:45 a.m. on May 26, search units at sea notified the command center that nine more crew members had been found. By midday, the 'SAR 631' had rescued six crew members drifting at sea, while other rescue teams found the remaining crew members. All were wearing life jackets and were therefore able to survive after many hours of battling adverse weather conditions in the Vung Ang area.
