Grounding in Buenos Aires

On March 26, 2019, around 9:15 p.m., an accident happened off the south channel of Buenos Aires port at km 1,3, when the "Doña Magda" was caught by currents and strong SE winds while it was waiting to enter the channel enroute to the Exolgan Container Terminal, and ran aground when leaving the channel. The ship also allided with a buoy. The container entered Exolgan at 09.45 p.m. without reporting the accident. The Maritime Prefectura did not intervene because nothing was reported. The port authorities meanwhile ordered inquiries upon becoming aware of the incident. It was the first entry of a Paraguayan ship without an Argentine pilot, days after it was decided to extend the type of ship excepted from contracting pilotage services from 120 to 140 meters.
