Repairs in Delfzijl completed

The "Eems Cobalt" left the port of Delfzijl again after repairs on Jan 23, 2019, at 7.40 p.m. and dropped anchor in pos. 53° 29.14' N 006° 48.31' E. It next headed to Hamburg before proceeding to Aarhus with an ETA as of Jan 28.

Failure of Turkish helmsman caused collision with Eems Cobalt

The officer at the helm of the "Paksoy 1" at the time of the collision with the "Eesm Cobalt" on Nov 15 was responsible for the accident, the investigation of the water police in Wilhelmshaven found out. A manoever carried out by the 40 year old man caused the clash. The "Eems Cobald" was approaching the northbound freighter from South. Both ships would have stayed clear if they had held course, but the helmsman of the "Paksoy 1" decided to turn sharply to starboard and crashed into the starboard side of the "Eems Cobalt". The man has to pay a fine of 250 Euro.

Bad seamanship of Paksoy 1 caused collision

The collision between the "Paksoy 1" and the "Eems Cobalt" was caused by bad seamanship of the crew of the Turkish ship according to investigations of the German water police which was investigating the accident 18 kilometers above Schiermonnikoog. The Turkish ship made a turn at the last moment and hit the "Ems Cobalt" at starboard side. The "Eems Cobalt" left Eemshaven on Nov 27 at 10.20 a.m. and arrived at the Koninklijke Niestern Sander BV shipyard in Delfzijl short past noon for repairs. The "Paksoy 1" was under repair in Emden, where the German police investigated the case of misconduct.
