Bottles and eggs thrown on berthed tanker in Cologne

Over the course of several nights, eggs and beer bottles were thrown from the Rhine bank in Mülheim onto the 'Eiltank 2', which was berthed, loaded with the liquid tar in front of the popular local recreational destination, under the Mülheim Bridge to the annoyance of some residents. Local residents kept coming back and complaining about the noise and stench caused by the ship which stops in Mülheim about six days a month. For years there has been a dispute about where in Cologne the ships can dock at night so that the crew can take a break. Theoretically, the city has to provide enough berths. In practice, however, this means that bank sections were becoming less attractive for residents and day-trippers. At the Rheinau Port in Deutz, the old town and in Niehl Port the ships don't have to run their diesel engines. There is no power supply in Mülheim, which regularly causes a smell of diesel in parts of the residential area in addition to noise and a poor view of the Rhine. The city has set itself the goal of providing Mülheim with shore power supply, but without having worked out a specific schedule. As long as the problem is not solved, the conflict between shipping and residents will probably continue. The owner Christian Bischof, who usually loads his ship at Shell in Godorf and sails to Rotterdam, called the water police after the recent incident.
