Wheelhouse torn off in bridge allision

The "Elisabeth Jaegers", 2985 ts (EU-No.: 02326564), allided with the Lauffener Bridge in Mannheim-Feudenberg on the Neckar at river km 7,2 on July 26, 2015. The ship with 1000 tons cargo on board was enroute to Ladenburg. The master had misjudged the height of the bridge and had not lowered down the wheelhouse enough. It was torn off and sank in the Neckar. No one was injured. The Neckar was immediately closed for ship traffic, and the fire rescue Mannheim attended with a boat and a crane. Traffic on the bridge was allowed again after an inspection.
