Medevac off Thira
In the morning of June 2, 2019, a 31 year old crew member of the "Emerald Princess" which was anchored off Thira was in need of immediate hospital care. He was medevaced and taken to the Polychronio of Thira for medical treatment.
Fire on cruise ship soon extinguished
A fire broke out aboard the "Emerald Princess" on April 14, 2019, shortly after it was floated out of drydock in Victoria, Canada. It occurred on deck 3 aft, while the ship was loading lifeboats from drydock. While the fire was very small,it produced lots of smokeThe crew fought the fire from deck 4 with a CO2 extinguisher. After one hour the alarm was called off. The fire was caused from a de-humidifier inside the bulk head in the dry storage. There apparently was no-hi fog fire suppression system at this location and the crew fought the fire with water. The "Emerald Princess" left Vancouver on April 16 and, after a three-night Pacific Coast Cruise, will arrive in Los Angeles on April 18.
Medevac off San Diego
The US Coast Guard medevaced a man from the "Emerald Princess" approximately 28 miles off the coast of San Diego, on March 10, 2019. The ship had contacted Coast Guard Sector San Diego Joint Harbor Operations Center watchstanders at approximately 6:30 p.m., requesting assistance for a passenger who was displaying symptoms of a heart attack and gastrointestinal distress. Watchstanders launched a Coast Guard Sector San Diego MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew to assist. Once on scene, the Jayhawk crew hoisted the patient and a ship’s medic into the helicopter at approximately 8:30 p.m. The crew transported the patient to Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla and transferred him to awaiting medical personnel.
